The Freight Train Instruction Book has been in the works for about a year, starting in May 2001. It contains full color instructions and part lists for seven complete models; the Chessie System Engine, Gondola, Tank Car, Box Car, Center Beam, Hopper, and Caboose. The book's 29 pages are printed on premium 28 lb. paper with a clear cover and heavy cardboard backing, all bound using the highly reguarded twin loop wire binding system for lay-flat viewing. Decals are included for two engines (sequentially numbered) and one caboose. A decal proof sheet is also included for photo copying, if so desired. 1250 elements (not included) are required to complete all seven models.

This first-edition, limited run of 40 books is signed and numbered by author Steve Barile.
